The Dental Implant Process
The implant secured restoration process will take some time to complete. Typically, we can replace your teeth in about three to nine months but there are many things that could extend this time frame. The process will begin with a consultation (to make sure you qualify for dental implants) and the creation of a treatment plan.
Some patients may need to undergo treatments to correct a dental problem before moving on to the surgical implantation. The purpose here is to create an environment that is healthy so that your implants can properly heal. Patients who do not have enough bone structure may need a bone graft to ensure there is enough bone to support the implants. Some patients may find out they have gum disease and will treatment first.
The implant procedure is minimally invasive with easy recovery that should take about three to six months. The metal implants posts will be surgically placed into the jaw bone. It typically takes about an hour to place a single implant. If you are getting multiple implants, it will take longer depending how many implants are being placed. During the three to six months, the implants will fuse with the surrounding jaw bone created a stable base for the dental restoration.
Once you are healed, the dental implant will be capped with an abutment. The abutment is a small piece that connects the dental restoration to the implant. Your gums may need a few weeks to heal after this is placed.
Impressions will be taken and used to fabricate your dental restoration. When ready, you will return to our Maynard, MA area dentist office for your final appointment where your dentist will attach your new restoration to the implants. We will check for color and fit and will make any minor adjustments if necessary.
